What is autism?

What is autism?

Is a condition in kids that affects processing in their brain affecting their social life as well as their communication skills. Autism is mostly associated with birth defects and children suffering from autism will experience their world differently from the way other kids do. The reaction to different normal situations may sound weird. Example if you touch a kid suffering from this condition, a simple touch may make them feel very uncomfortable and sometimes they will react as if they are agonizing some pain, yet it's just a miscommunication in the brain.

How would you detect autism at an infancy and childhood stage?

This might not be easy but what you should do is observe the behavior of the infant as he or she develops, an infant is expected to produce bubble sounds after six months if that is not the case the infant must be suffering from disability, also unusual gestures is another way you can detect autism. An unrecognized vocal pattern shows that they are developing speech disability with time. As they grow try simple tricks like pointing a figure towards an object like a TV, if they stare at your finger instead of looking at the direction you are pointing then they have a problem with response.

How does autism cause delay in skill?

Yes autism causes basic special skills impairment. Communication skills are mostly affected from the infant stage to adulthood. An autistic child will have speech problems in enabling him speak and be heard. Their vocal patterns is affected to the extend you can't easily get the message they are trying to pass across. Autism also causes social deficits, you will find that autistic patients respond slowly to their name or are not comfortable in the midst of others and will always tend to alienate themselves. They will also be fond of repetitive behavior like always wearing the same clothes day in day out or consistently repeating certain words.

Why autism is often considered a developmental disability?

Autism cannot be fully asserted as a mental disability but to some extent this patients are disable either mentally or socially. Autistic people cannot be able to learn in the same environment as other people especially those with intense condition, this due to their difference in use of verbal speech. Autistic people also tend to shy away from social contact and are referred to as lonely in the society; they cannot cope well with others in the society.
