"We must take change by the hand or rest assured, change will take us by the throat." Winston Churchill

"We must take change by the hand or rest assured, change will take us by the throat." Winston Churchill

How often in life do you feel we are being dragged through the mud by change?

"Times, they are a-changin'." Sometimes it is times like these when we feel out of control, even lost. Things shift around us so quickly that we can barely up.

For many people this happens a lot... particularly today, when change is occurring at an extraordinary pace. It's typical that individuals feel the change is unwelcome. It feels as though it's happening to them, not with them. Have you experienced this feeling? If you're answer is "Yes!", then we've got 3 simple steps to assist you in identifying how to shift that feeling from "to you" to "with you."

The quote above by Winston Churchill sheds great light as to why some people feel that life happens to them. Most often people are not the captains of their own ship. Most often people are subject to what others have planned for them with little input of their own

If you are the one setting the course of your life, navigating the world, taking charge of your goals and future then the pain you feel is minimal. It's no fun being taken anywhere "by the throat." The only way to avoid that feeling is to be the one in command of your life.

Our friend, Dr. Rev. Michael Beckwith has often said, "You are either pushed by pain or pulled by a vision." This is the key to creating your life.

In the times of change where you feel a bit frazzled it is of the utmost importance to be aware of the vision you are moving toward ... pause for a moment and review your vision. If you have no end in mind than how can you ever be in charge and leading change in your life? You can't!

In order to get to the next step, be clear about your vision. Feel the emotions, see the picture in your minds eye, and imagine your goal already accomplished. Keep that vision in mind and make note of every detail before you move on.

Once you have a clear vision in mind it is time to take inventory. The second step is to objectively look at what is actually happening around you. You'll notice things are changing because they always are changing. Appreciate the change. Be grateful for it because with change lies opportunity to live your vision.

If you are not happy with your situation, reconstruct it in your imagination. Ask how it can benefit you. The answer is within you. Meditate on the question until you know. Within every adversity lies the potential for opportunity.

Finally, in order to befriend change... choose to take action immediately. Utilize that which you have around you right now. Don't be philosophical. This isn't theory; it's a process that is only successful when you start to behave as though your vision were at hand. Because it is.

Do not worry if you know all the steps or think the action you are taking is meaningless. It's not the size of the steps we take, but the direction in which we take it, that creates the momentum in our lives.
