OJT is a training tool most workers have experienced. OJT stands for On the Job Training that is a training tool used by companies to trained novice workers and employees who will shift to new unfamiliar tasks. On the job training is the most effective form of job training according to studies made by the private sectors and the federal legislation. The rise of global competitions among industries leads to the creation of a formal and sophisticated form of on the job training. This is being implemented due to the spread of using computers in various production processes.

On the job training has two types the structured on the job training which is also called the planned training and the second is the unstructured on the job training or the unplanned training. Unstructured OJT The unstructured on the job training is the most common training method used by companies. Oftentimes the training is composed of a beginner worker working with a well experienced employee who serves as a mentor or as a guide during the training process. In this case the worker learns through feedbacks given by the trainer or suggestions given by managers. Unstructured on the job training often fails to impart the skills needed for the new worker because experienced employee sometimes do not explicitly passed the correct way of doing the job. Supervisors or managers also do not have a uniform training method every time they trained new workers. Structured OJT A little history about the structured on the job training is that it was launch by Charles "Skipper" R. Allen during the World War I in a shipbuilding industry. The concept of the training program is based on the ideas of a psychologist named Johann Freidrich Herbart. To teach novice workers on what they must know and what they must do to effectively complete designated task is the primary aim of a structured on the job training. Below are steps used in a structured on the job training system. * Preparation - The preparation stage is where tasks are being showed to new workers so that they will know what to expect from the task and they can prepare themselves. * Presentation - In this stage new workers are told what to do and why they should do it. This is also the stage in which instructors show to the new workers how the task is done. * Application - After they have observed, new workers are given a chance to actually do the task with their trainer's guidance. * Inspection - Though they have been guided with their trainer they will still receive feedbacks and suggestions so that they will surely perfect the tasks.
