Humanities degree programs give students the opportunity to discover a variety of subjects without committing to one particular area of study. For example, students who have a fascination for theatre but are not sure if they want to commit to the area of study, can explore the field by taking an acting class as an elective. The art of acting is more than just learning lines and getting over stage fright. Students learn the craft through a variety of ways, including knowing how to effectively interpret drama. When interpreting drama, the setting of the play speaks volume. Observe how many set changes occurred and whether the play incorporated setting changes at all. Small-scale setting aspects like an exterior vs. interior setting can significantly influence the various elements of drama. When writing your commentary try to be as descriptive as possible, detailing how the setting impacts tone, imagery, and dialogue.
