Statistics show that even though only 30 percent of the meals that families eat are away from home, they actually cost almost twice as much as a homemade meal would have cost.

Control portions and calories. Meals eaten at home are generally of a healthier proportion and typically have far fewer calories than meals eaten away from home. Restaurant meals keep getting larger and larger in proportion and they are generally a lot higher in calories, fat, and sodium than homemade meals. Statistics show that restaurant meals can have 60 percent more calories than homemade meals.

Influence childrens eating habits. Meal planning gives you the power to decide what will be on the plate for dinner. This means that you can greatly influence your childrens eating habits by preparing healthier meals and exposing them to healthy foods that they may not have eaten outside of the home.
