The first step in starting a carrier in this domain is to obtain a Bachelor of Science diploma in nursing or an associate degree from a recognized school. A diploma usually takes three years to obtain and a degree can vary between three and four years. The instruction will be in both theory and practical programs.

The basic principles of this profession are covered in the Common Foundation Program which is followed in the first year. During your training the school will place you at different clinics and hospitals in the area. This is done to ensure that you get much need experience. You can also choose to study online for this profession.

You would need a license before you can practice. In the States you need to pass an exam known as NCLEX-RN for obtaining your license. This is a license that is applicable throughout the country. The minimum mark required to pass is seventy per cent. You cannot write this examination before you have one of the degrees or diplomas and have at least some practical experience at a health institution.

The guiding principles must be followed to be able to sustain the license. Some states may require a higher education. The main benefit of this is that it helps in career growth and progress. The different requirements of each medical branch makes it necessary to specialize in areas like pediatrics, cancer, dentistry, psychiatry or public health.

Pursuing this career can be very satisfactory. Nursing education is also challenging at the same time. The line of work provides various opportunities for career advancement especially with higher education.
