The term "parent" can mean very different things in today's world. Gone are the days when the term "parent" or "parents" meant a man and a woman. This might upset some people, but there's nothing that they can do about this fact. Men and women are choosing to become single parents. Same sex partners are choosing to raise children together. Also, the ways that people become parents are becoming varied. Some people adopt. Some people choose methods like surrogacy, and artificial insemination. No matter who they are, or how they chose to become parents, they want to celebrate their happy occasion with the people closest to them. Here are examples of different people who become parents, and how a baby shower can be tailored to them.

Single Parents: There are more singles who have never been married in these times than ever. It used to be a guaranteed thing that a single person would marry if not soon after high school, then by sometime in their mid-twenties. As time marched on, and societal standards evolved, we now have a breed of singles who are well over 30, and for various reasons, have never been married. Although marriage might not be on the horizon for them anytime soon, if ever, they still have longings to be parents. To this end, single parents are using nontraditional methods to make their family dreams come true, and are choosing to become single parents. In other cases, a person might have been in a marriage or a relationship, became pregnant, and find that they are alone to be single parents. In any case, a baby shower for the single parent should have a special aura of honor and support. Being a single parent is exciting, but scary. It would be good for the hostess of the baby shower to plan a schedule of events that are not only fun, but leave the single parent feeling totally supported, and loved. Same-sex Parents: Same-sex parents need to also feel very supported, and celebrated. They are making a choice to start a family against the opinions of a lot of people in society. It would be a good idea for the host or hostess of a same-sex baby shower to keep the guest list to very close friends, and supportive family members. It wouldn't do for people to show up just for curiosity sake. Adopting Parents, or Parents Involving A Surrogate: These parents need support, because they are scared to death. There are so many twist and turns that can happen when a couple counts on an adoption, or a surrogate to make their parental dreams come true. One of the things that these parents struggle with, is the fear that they really won't get to be parents. Having a baby shower for these parents can go a long way in making them feel that being parents is going to be a reality for them. Again, the word "parent" or "parents" can mean something different from it did even 25-30 years ago. However, the one thing parents now and then have in common is that there is a baby on the way. This fact deserves to be celebrated, and enjoyed. About the Author: Frank Cole Tips brought to you by SimplyUniqueBabyGifts.com.
