Coffee is practically a hobby with all that is available to satisfy that daily fix of go-juice. Are single-serve brewers really necessary? This requires more scrutiny.

One of the most consumed beverages in the world is coffee according to Wikipedia. The advent of specialty coffees has been at the forefront of introducing more clever and innovative concepts in marketing coffee to the masses, and why not? Coffee is practically a hobby with all that is available to satisfy that daily fix of go-juice. Are single-serve brewers really necessary? This requires more scrutiny.

Single-serve coffee makers have been flying off the shelves since their conception nearly a decade ago. Now convenience stores are promoting their adoption by consumers through serving freshly brewed beverages by-the-cup. That, in and of itself, does not seem to offend the purist as these coffees offer so much in variety with features to rival those concocted by your local barista.

Today there are more than a dozen brands manufacturing these convenience machines, and they come in both commercial and home varieties. There are many factors which should be considered in making a brand or model selection. Today's coffee maker looks more like tomorrow's futuristic machine establishing the "cool" factor when it comes to making up your mind which one to buy. That's even before you consider the particular coffee pod varieties and interchangeability.

When it comes to understanding single cup brewers, it can be simplified by explaining that there are three main types: * Tassimo brewers - use T-discs * Keurig brewers - use K-cups * Coffee pod brewers - use coffee pods

All modern single-cup machines work with one of the above types of media, and none thus far are interchangeable with more than one variety. Both Keurig and Tassimo have very limited selections of media, although they have both been designed to be extremely consistent. The Tassimo variety is capable of reading a bar code on the T-Disk, and selecting a pre-determined temperature and flow rate.

This new-age way of brewing coffee provides convenience as it reduces the amount of clean up required, and prevents over-cooking the coffee. The selection of beverages available to consumers of these brewers increases with each passing year, and manufacturers have now developed latte and tea variations. Manufacturers have seen rapidly increasing adoption in the past two years, and demand has outgrown supply in some markets in North America. Testimonials from those who use these brewers often read the same: great taste, convenience, and value.
