Many people have great ideas that may be a great story for a documentary; but they do not know how to do it. However, it is not very difficult to make a documentary if you know how to do it. You do not have to spend a lot of money and time on the documentary and can do it by following some steps.



The first thing you need to do is some research on the theme. If you have a broader view, you better narrow it down and make it as specific as possible. This will make the documentary more meaningful. Get all the information you find from the internet and related books. Asking the people who know about the subject or are interested in it can be a great source. You better shooting the interviews and use them in your film for making them more realistic.



Watch documentary movies with similar topics and focus on their details while trying to find the best in each of them to fit in on your own. You will need to find out what equipments you will need to get and what kind of professionals to hire or join according to your chosen filmmaking style. Again, research everywhere you can and write an efficient screenplay.



Try to get an overall work at the final stage that includes different point of views on the same subtopic of your film. It would be helpful if you can interview people from different culture and place; how they are not required for every documentary. In some case, pictures and documents are very important you need to show them accordingly.



Finance is a major part of every filming category and it is more problematic for the documentaries; especially if you are an independent documentary maker. Try to find a good financier. If your subject is good and if you can prove that you have to potential to create highest level of productivity, it won�t be a big problem.
