A flower girl is a very important addition to any one's wedding. It is also a great way to show a little girl in your life how important she is to you. The flower girl follows behind the bridesmaids and either before or after the maid of honor. She scatters flower petals along the aisle as she walks to prepare the path and the guests for the bride's arrival. One of the parts of planning a wedding brides can enjoy the most is looking for a flower girl dress and picking out the perfect one for her special girl. But, how do you prepare her and find that precious dress she'll wear?

A flower girl is a very important addition to any one's wedding. It is also a great way to show a little girl in your life how important she is to you. The flower girl follows behind the bridesmaids and either before or after the maid of honor. She scatters flower petals along the aisle as she walks to prepare the path and the guests for the bride's arrival. One of the parts of planning a wedding brides can enjoy the most is looking for a flower girl dress and picking out the perfect one for her special girl. But, how do you prepare her and find that precious dress she'll wear?

The age range of a flower girl should span from 3-8. Usually a bride will pick from the family members, like nieces or cousins, however it is perfectly fine to pick the daughter of a close friend. For some brides the choice is easy. Any little one has the ability to be adorable, which is sure to put a smile on the guest's faces. No matter how adorable they are, a small child is very likely to act out during the ceremony. The best way to avoid flower girl malfunction is to prepare with her in advance. A fun way to do this is to grab a picture book that discusses her role as a flower girl and go through it with her.

The bride should designate one of the bridesmaids to keep an eye on the flower girl and hold her hand if needed. If she starts fidgeting or misbehaving, the bridesmaid should bring the flower girl to her parent's pew, where she should sit for the duration. Seat her parents on the aisle, near the front so that she can see them when she walks down the aisle and during the ceremony itself. Also, make sure she uses the restroom before the ceremony. Most of all don't be too nervous that she will make a mistake. If she dumps all her petals at the start of the aisle, runs instead of walks, or even starts to cry, guests will think it's cute.

If you have a special young girl in your life that you've had in mind, who might be just a little too old to be a flower girl, just find another position for her. She can be a junior bridesmaid or a reader. There is nothing written in stone that says you even have to have a flower girl at all if you prefer. However, the flower girl does make a nice addition in your wedding photos. It is also a cute part of the wedding when the little one is announced by the D.J. at the reception. How cute would it be for her to take part in the first dance? The wedding ceremony and reception afterward can prove to be a long day for any little one. Don't be offended if her parents take her home early. Also, think about proving a babysitting service for guests with young ones. This will be a great way for the kids to play and for the adults to be able to enjoy themselves.

Often, a flower girl is dressed in a miniature version of the bride's dress, or a white dress with a sash that matches the bridesmaids dresses, or even a miniature version of the bridesmaids' dresses. Many brides would rather the flower girl to wear white as a symbol of sweetness and purity. If you're going this route, keep in mind that some bridal gowns may not be age-appropriate in the exact miniature version. The version your flower girl wears should be altered for her age and not necessarily exactly match what the bride is wearing. Make sure it's comfortable and not too long, so that she won't be pulling at her dress or tripping down the aisle. Jewelry should be simple and age-appropriate as well. Whatever happens, or whatever look you choose, the flower girl is sure to be the cutest part of any bridal party and a very important part of your wedding!
