The daily bath and after bath lotion application is not all that is needed for proper baby skin care. You need to take steps to ensure that every cell of your kid's skin is clean and healthy. Treating developing skin conditions, taking care of your child's laundry and keeping him out of the sun are all important. Baby skin is not nearly as tough as a grown-up's skin. Your daughter (or son) needs you to make sure that she (or he) doesn't develop skin conditions anywhere on her body. Baby skin care is not very complex--which should be good news for you! You should be able to put together a quality routine early on in your baby's life. Use these tips to help you out.

Your baby's bath can be short; it does not have to be long. In fact, keeping your newborn in the bath for too long can actually be harmful! Your baby's bath only needs to be a few minutes long--only enough time to get wet, get soapy and get rinsed. After rinsing off the baby, apply a little bit of lotion or moisturizer and then towel her dry. Dry your baby's skin completely or skin rashes or yeast infections can develop. After all, a newborn baby's skin has a bunch of folds in which moisture droplets can hide for ages! Make sure the towel is a soft one! Before you put the baby into the bath water make sure you test the water's temperature. Your baby's skin is incredibly sensitive and is easily burned by water that is too hot. Believe it or not it isn't until a lot later in our lives that we start to enjoy baths and showers that use hot water. The best way to test your baby's bathwater is to test it with your elbow. You have very sensitive skin on your elbow so if your elbow feels like it is burning in the water, cool the water down! At most your baby's bathwater should be lukewarm. Acne is a skin problem that many people don't know can inflict their baby. The acne happens because the baby gets exposed to Mom's hormones while he is still in the womb. These hormones trigger some baby's skin to become oily and the result is clogged pores which lead to acne. Do not try to treat these breakouts with adult acne remedies! This can lead to a trip to the emergency room. Your best option is to either visit your doctor or letting it clear up on its own with regular cleaning. You don't need to use very much soap at all to keep your baby's skin clean. All you need are a few drops of soap to totally clean your baby. Using more than those few drops will dry out the baby's skin and make him vulnerable to a host of skin irritations. Don't ever apply the soap directly to your baby's skin. Squeeze the drops onto a washcloth and then use the lather to clean your baby's body. You might find it easier, especially in the beginning months to lather and wash one part of the body at a time. Trying to handle a soapy baby is downright frightening. Worrying about baby skin care is natural when you are a new parent. You will probably be tempted to give the baby too many baths. Believe it or not, it is pretty easy to practice proper baby skin care. Before long you will see that all you have to do is keep your baby out of dirt and the rest of your infant's skin care is common sense. Don't worry too much, every parent gets the hang of it sooner or later. About the Author: Frank Cole To get info on unique baby toys check out his recent web-site regarding soft baby toys. |
