A recent article in Psychology Today discusses how daydreaming and imagination are an important part of childhood development. "There's actually a substantial amount of research connecting daydreaming in children with creativity, healthy social adjustment, and good school performance," the article concludes. But some parents aren't sure how to channel excessive imaginary play and daydreaming into positive behaviors.

Don Winn's newest children's book release, The Incredible Martin O'Shea, is a great tool for parents working to guide their children's imaginations into a more productive realm. Over-imaginative children are often cast as sufferers of ADD, but Winn's book suggests that children must understand the connection between doing well in school, and their ability to live out their dreams.

From the Author:

I have so many great memories from my childhood, but two events stand out as my favorites - the time I spent in a cardboard box living out my imagined odysseys, and sitting on my grandmother's lap reading. She had a large children's dictionary, and she would open those pages of knowledge and share a piece of the wider world with me. Looking back, I realize it was not the dictionary that taught me so much, but rather my grandmother and the interactions that we had.

The Interactive Series of books, from Cardboard Box Adventures, provide a unique tool that parents, grandparents, and teachers can use to not only teach important life lessons, but do so in a fun and engaging way. Each book is more than just a story - they are adventures that a child can experience to open up their imagination and creativity. At the end of each book, questions are included that can be discussed to help children understand the ways in which we are different, the importance of learning, as well as other valuable life lessons.
